Overview

This role is responsible for overseeing the daily financial operations of the freight forwarding business, ensuring accurate accounting, cash flow management, profitability reporting, statutory compliance, and effective credit control. The role supports operational and commercial teams by providing financial insights and maintaining strong internal controls. 

Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Accounting

  • Supervise Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), General Ledger, and Bank Reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of revenue, costs, accruals, and provisions.
  • Review freight, customs brokerage, warehousing, and logistics transactions for accounting accuracy.
  • Monitor monthly closing activities and ensure adherence to reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Daily petty cash management

Credit Control & Collections

  • Monitor customer credit limits and payment terms.
  • Review aging reports and drive collection of overdue invoices.
  • Coordinate with sales and operations teams to resolve billing disputes.
  • Recommend credit holds, credit extensions, and risk mitigation measures. 

Cash Flow & Treasury

  • Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor bank balances and working capital requirements.
  • Manage supplier payment schedules and approval processes.
  • Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations. 

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management reports including:
    • Revenue and Gross Profit Analysis
    • Branch/Business Unit Profitability
    • Customer Profitability Reports
    • Cash Flow Reports
    • KPI Dashboards
  • Assist in preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Analyze financial variances and recommend corrective actions. 

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, local tax regulations, VAT requirements, and corporate policies.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits.
  • Maintain documentation required for statutory and tax audits.
  • Monitor adherence to company financial controls and approval matrices. 

Cost Control

  • Review freight cost accruals and carrier invoices.
  • Verify profitability of shipments and customer accounts.
  • Monitor job costing accuracy across Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Customs Brokerage, and Warehousing.
  • Identify margin leakage and process improvement opportunities.

Leadership

  • Supervise finance executives and accountants.
  • Allocate work and monitor performance.
  • Train staff on financial procedures and ERP systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
  • Professional qualification preferred (ACCA, CPA, CMA, CA).
  • 5–8 years of finance experience, preferably in freight forwarding, logistics, shipping, or supply chain industries.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory or people‑management experience
  • Strong knowledge of freight forwarding operations, job costing, and profitability analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel reporting.
  • Advanced Excel reporting skills.
  • System proficiency preffered, including SAP Success Factors, CargoWise or similar platforms
  • Effective coordination and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work within defined strategies while contributing practical, execution‑focused insights.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills
